  1. Do you think it could have something to do with Tennessee’s lack of an income tax? Seems I’ve been hearing a lot about an exodus of corporations and business owners from high tax states like CA and those from the northeast. Nashville is a beautiful “small city” with a lot of charm, but I have to believe not having a state income tax plays into these decisions.

  2. I think you are probably right (at least for one factor) that contributes to this. However, I had dinner the other night with a group that included young aspiring songwriter. She’s very good but swimming in a pond with a hung number of other aspiring songwriters. She probably represents a huge group of people for whom income tax is pretty low on their list due to the fact that they have very little income in the first place. I think there is a creative critical mass that feeds itself. Being from Louisiana, that is one of my chief concerns about the “rebuilding” of New Orleans. You can replace buildings and improve infrastructure. It’s is very hard to regenerate culture.
